Dear partners,

For once, this is what it feels like to be a Gartner shareholder after a gruelling 12 months. I think this is the first quarter where we can finally allow ourselves to call it a small victory.

Small being the important word.

The recovery is still a long way from complete. For those who have not followed Gartner closely, the stock had fallen more than 60% from its peak. One strong quarter and one big move in the share price (up about 24% in a day and this is a normal move for companise nowadays) do not erase what came before it.

Last quarter, I wrote that “The Gartner Inflection Is Here.” You can read that piece above. I mention this not because I want to make a victory lap, but because I think there is value in putting your views down before you know the outcome.

I am not here to make calls with the benefit of hindsight, and I do not delete the calls I got wrong. If I am wrong, I will say I am wrong. Investing is difficult. Nobody gets every call right, and anyone who has been doing this long enough will have mistakes, bad timing and theses that simply did not work out.

I am also not writing this to collect as many subscribers as possible or to create an image that I somehow never make mistakes. What I hope to build instead is a circle of like-minded investors who genuinely enjoy thinking about businesses, challenging one another’s assumptions and getting better at investing over time.

People who care more about the process than pretending to be right all the time. So yes, this quarter feels good. After the last 12 months, I think Gartner shareholders have earned the right to enjoy a small victory.

But the work is not done. The inflection may be here. The recovery still has a long way to go. If this is for you, consider support me and help to grow this community together! Below is for the paid subcribers and i have added a bonus section where i have included replies from their investor relations.
